You can’t lose a bad habit. You can however exchange it for a better one and do it again and again until you are left with a great habit. How many times have you taken a fall when learning to walk? Endless times. And, yet, you never thought you were a failure or a disappointment to anyone. It is because you learned a new skill. When you begin your practice at Nova Pilates, you will find yourself frustrated at times and unable to gracefully perform an exercise. You will feel discomfort at times taking you out of your safety zone. That is when you build patience.
Pilates exercises are done in a flowing manner. Fluidity, grace, and ease are goals applied to all exercises. The energy of an exercise connects all body parts and flows through the body in an even way. Pilates equipment, like the reformer, are very good mirrors of one's flow and concentration as they tend to bang around and suddenly become quite "machine-like" if one loses ones control and flow.
We believe that Pilates is a process (vs. goal) oriented practice. Pretend your body is your child. Would you expect your child to change in a day? Would you feed your child junk food? Would you keep her without fresh air, water, rest? Do you think you can change your child? All you can do is be supportive, and the child will do her work. Our body knows how to heal itself, you just need to provide it with love and care as well as make sure she gets all she needs to be healthy.
So give your body a chance to recover, to learn new things, new survival skills. Muscular strength, flexibility and resilience are essential for your body’s health.
